Home has never been a more important place. Feng shui always honors home as the place where we recover and prepare for the outside world.
Now we are advised not to leave it – not to go to work or school or anywhere fifty or maybe ten people congregate. We are confined to our feng shui homes.
This brings extra importance and more practical functions to fulfill in our scared space.
• We will spend all our time there in self-isolation trying to work, do our day jobs at home when we may not be used to doing that. Is our home office adequate for increase use, if there even is one ?
• The kids may need more space to play and study An unused dining room table might work.
• We will have to eat more meals at home. Cooking is an ancient art of survival.
• We have to entertain ourselves. Technology allows many options, maybe too many. Do we have enough computers, equipment or space for all these activities at once? This can put extra pressure on everyone and their private spaces.

The good news is that it’s Spring. The weather is getting warmer. Some days we can go outside and spend time there – in our yards or take a walk on less traveled sidewalks or roads. Enjoying nature, watching the birds, walking the dog are all fun things to do. You may notice some yard work that needs to be done. Leaves need to be raked. On a nice day, you can do it,

The good news, from a feng she perspective, is that you might be able to spend some of your spare home time tending to the home tasks you’ve been putting off. You can make a list focusing on the most urgent problem area first.
Then pick a room or place to start:
- The garage is your feng shui area of first impression. It sets the tone for what you do when you get home.Hopefully snow shovels and road salt can be put a way to make way for gardening tools and summer outside toys and lawn chairs, etc.
- The basement, considered to be your subconscious mind in feng shui, might benefit from clearing some cobwebs and sweeping . It might be a place to escape from commotion going on upstairs and get something accomplished, do the laundry.
- The attic, considered to be your future possibilities, might be a place you can reach in cold weather and a place to look for items that need to be donated or a place to put your Christmas decorations, etc.
- The bedrooms often don’t get as much attention because it is a private space where visitors don’t usually go. It is the area where we are most influenced by our environment because we sleep there. Clutter is affecting your dreams.Children’s bedrooms are often an obstacle course. Getting to the bed without tripping can be a goal.
- The Home/Work Office
- Papers, piles of magazines and unread mail, things that need to be filed. Maybe now’s the time to deal with it?
Time for a deep Spring Cleaning. That depends on how many children are in the house, working from home or more immediate concerns.

Remember doing simple, mindless routine chores can become a meditation. There’s no rule that you have to sit still and do nothing to meditate. Gardening can be a meditation as well as cleaning the bathroom.
Set up a household routine and follow it as best you can. A time for family meditation, chores, sharing computers, etc. Some forethought may save stress later on.

- Bright or Light refracting objects – lights, mirrors crystals

2. Sounds. – brass bells, wind chimes electronic tones. Check for squeaking doors or annoying sounds. Pleasant sounds elevate moods.
3. Living objects – life Force, plants, fish bowls pets.
This might be a good time to repot some plants or clean them up, Remember we don’t like plants around us in a state of death or decay. Healthy, growing plants or silk replicas are ideal.
4. Moving objects like mobiles, weather vanes stimulate circulation
5 Heavy objects – stone and statues, can add stability to your space
6. Hydraulic Power. – fountains, waterfalls, are good representations of power
7 Bamboo flutes lift energy off oppressive beams and create sound
8. Colors – we use them to represent the five elements we use in our temporary cures
water – blacks to blues
wood – greens
fire – reds
earth – yellow, brown, beige
metal – white or metallic colors
9. Others
Transcendental cures
items appealing to the senses of smell and touch
Create a home atmosphere of good support comfort and security especially for the children. Because we have not experienced the current situation before there is fear of the unknown. We don’t know what to expect and that can be scary. Some of us are old enough to recall what FDR said “ All we have to fear is fear itself†.Let’s not let fear take over and traumatize the children. Play calming music when you can. Keep the stress and chaos out of the house and make it a learning experience where you can. A feng shied, well run house can help.
